Hope R&B (Ruth & Boaz): Strengthening Connection

Praise the Lord for His leading !

With the aim of helping couples build a legacy of love and faith and establishing God-centered marriages, the first gathering of “Hope R&B” was launched.

From 10:00am, around 20 families came together at Hope Oasis. Using the materials from The Marriage Course by Alpha, the session began with a brief introduction by sister Kat, and each participant received a booklet to facilitate later discussions.

Next, an engaging video was shown. It opened with a sharing about tending a vineyard with substantial effort, beautifully comparing marriage to vineyard care stages through 4 practical analogies:

  • Stage 1 – Adjusting: Just as seeds and young plants take 3 years to adapt to the soil, the early years of marriage require a tremendous amount of adjustment. Couples learn that they can change themselves but not their partner.
  • Stage 2 – Pruning: Just as some branches must be cut to ensure healthy growth for the main branches, couples must prune certain areas of their lives as they get increasingly busy with children, work, and other demands, learning to prioritize their relationship above all else.
  • Stage 3 – Supporting: Plants rely on external structure to stand strong. Similarly, marriages need a solid support network of friends and family. Whether facing challenges from illness, infertility, finances, an empty nest, or elderly parents, supporting and encouraging each other is essential. In doing so, even challenges can actually draw a couple closer together.
  • Stage 4 – Renewing: To bear good fruit in the long run, even after the harvest season, vines continue deep rooting beneath the surface for ongoing renewal. Likewise, couples must be prepared to talk about their individual needs and desires, sharing their hopes for the future. By slowing down, they can decide on desired changes to gain more quality time, or to start something new to restore and renew their connection. Reconnecting is truly possible, and by working together, couples will experience dramatic changes and a renewed sense of intimacy.

Filled with love and laughter, the session featured touching real-life case sharings in the video and 4 guided discussions based on the above analogies, where each couple deeply explored the booklet questions with sincere reflections of their current relationship, covering spiritual, emotional and physical aspects. To strengthen the connection in practice, the participating couples were encouraged to pro-actively carve out quality weekly time to nurture each other’s needs, rather than re-actively focusing on each other’s shortcomings.

Pastor Gavin concluded the session by sharing that this course is the start of a lifelong journey of building strong and biblical couples. Drawing inspiration from Boaz and Ruth in the Old Testament, which symbolizes the relationship between Christ and His church, he reminded us that strong husband-wife bonds grow through prayer, mutual support, and mentorship, ultimately building our church family. The session ended at 12:00pm.

Thank you Jesus for His blessings ! May the Holy Spirit guide our couples with a renewed sense of intimacy and hope for building a strong and biblical church !
