Foundation of Faith
God is the Creator and has sovereignty over all things because He is omniscience, omnipotent and omnipresence. God is also full of love and grace, holy and righteous; He is our Abba, Father, and is the “Father” in the Trinity.
Jesus is the Son of God, born as a human on earth by a virgin. He is totally sinless in order to become the sacrifice for our sin, crucified on the cross, and thereby delivered us from the bondage of sin. Jesus is the “Son” in the Trinity.
The wages of sin is eternal death, which results in eternal separation from God. Jesus became the once-for-all sacrifice for sin, which means that as He suffered on the cross, He bore all the judgment as well as the punishments related to our sins on Himself. In exchange, we are imparted with God’s righteousness when we are in Him.
Jesus is the only One who can give us a resurrected and eternal life. When we put our faith in His death on the cross and His victory over death when He was resurrected on the third day, we can have the confidence of the hope of eternal life.
Believers are those who have received God’s forgiveness of sins, trusting that by the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross, all our sins of the past, present and future have been washed away.
Jesus Christ is the grace of God; the everlasting Truth is that man can only be reconciled to God through Christ. No one can earn their way to salvation through man’s effort or by keeping the law. We can only be forgiven of our sins and be counted as righteous by receiving Grace and Truth through faith in Christ; Christ is indeed Grace and Truth.
Receiving water baptism is a way to testify to other people of our faith towards Christ. When we emerge in water and subsequently come out of it, we are actually replicating Christ’s death and resurrection. It symbolizes the death of our old self and we now enter into a new life that is united with Christ.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, who convicts the world (the unbelievers) of their sin and their need to return to God. The moment we receive Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit dwells in us, leading us into all truths, and bearing in us the fruit of the Spirit. He continually fills us and empowers us so that we may testify God in all areas of our lives.
Holy Spirit baptism is an invitation for the Holy Spirit to fill us and to continuously empower us with God’s power so that we may testify God. The sign of being filled with the Holy Spirit is “speaking in tongues”. Praying in tongues (that is, praying in the Spirit) is allowing the Holy Spirit to intercede for us, so that our spiritual lives may be edified.
The Holy Communion is for remembering our Lord Jesus Christ and the results of His sacrificial work on the cross. The bread represents His body that was broken for our sins, so that we may be forgiven and be healed. The cup represents His blood that has washed away our sins. The Lord also established the covenant of grace with God by His blood, while we enter into this covenant by faith.
“Ten” in the bible represents “the whole”. The tithe (one-tenth) is also the “firstfruit”, which speaks of the best portion of that “whole”. When we give our tithe, we are proclaiming our faith in God, that everything in our lives come from God and belong to God. When we are willing to give the best portion back to God, it represents that we are also giving out entire life to God, and become holy unto God.
God is worthy of our worship. Worship is “in spirit” (being led by the Spirit to put our focus back on God) and “in truth” (based on the Word of Christ and on all truths that pointed to Jesus Christ). Worship is not limited to singing worship songs to praise God, but include all areas of our lives being Christ-centered and testifying God’s truth.
