Mission Sunday
March 13, 2011
Praise God for the Mission Sunday! “We want to run to the altar and catch the fire! To stand in the gap between the living and the dead!” God has ignited the fire within us through praise and worship.
Sister Gloria then delivered the testimony on how God has led her through every challenge in the ministry.
The sermon was centered on Matthew 28:16-20, the last paragraph in the book of Matthew. Pastor Gavin reminded us that the ultimate purpose of the church is to spread the Gospel, as stated in the scripture, ” Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Then pastor showed us a video, in which a sparking flame of a match lit a candle. And that candle in turn lit many other candles. Our lives are like the little flame on the candle. We are made to shine for the glory of God. Also we are to spread the flame around and light others’ lives.
God has always been actively looking for sinners from the beginning of the world to the very end of ages. In the Eden Garden, God was searching for Adam who had just sinned (Genesis 3:9). And in Revelations, the last book in Bible, God is still waiting for the sinners to return. (Revelations 22:17)
The opportunities for bringing sinners to Christ are tremendous. Currently only 10% of Hong Kong population is Christian. The figure is similar for China and the Philippines.
Indeed the lost world is huge. But what do we need to save these souls for Jesus? Pastor shared about three points. First is availability. Make yourself available in missionary and ministry. Second, worship God. Focus on God only. Third is submission. As every authority has been given to Jesus, so we have to submit ourselves to the Great King.
Then pastor encouraged us to pray and pledge to join the coming missionary trips and offer to the missionary fund. Praise the Lord that most brothers and sisters responded with their faithful hearts. Let’s keep following Jesus, as we present our lives to the world as living testimonies and working together to have God’s Great Commission accomplished. Cheers!
