Father’s Day

June 20, 2010

We celebrated Father’s Day with a special Sunday Service. Praise the Lord that many brothers and sisters started inviting friends and family members (particularly fathers) to this special event weeks before the Service, and many of them turned up and joined us.

The Service started with a Spirit-filled Praise and Worship session led by Bro. Allen. Many danced and worshipped freely in God’s presence. Following the Praise and Worship, a group of kids from the Children Church performed a dance item to ‘Jesus, You are my Superhero’. Their joyful performance expressed the highest appreciation to the fathers.

After the Children Church’s performance, the church also showed love to all the fathers with a special gift – a potted plant. Smiles were seen on all of the fathers in our midst as they received this gift from the kids. Pastor Gavin then closed with a special prayer for all the fathers amongst us.

The Service continued with Sis. Monica Chan’s touching and powerful testimony. She shared about the love she had from her earthly father, mother, brother and husband, thanking God for His love through the family God has placed in her life. Indeed, as it is written in the bible, God is love.

The sermon was delivered by Pastor Gavin. Pastor shared about ‘A Father’s Role’ as seen in Matthew 1:19-25. This passage focuses on Joseph. Through this bible character, Pastor shared that God chose Joseph, a humble and quiet man, to be the earthly father of our Messiah, Jesus Christ, because of 3 characteristics of Joseph – Righteousness, Responsible, and Relationship.

Pastor shared about his own father’s life when teaching this passage. His father was a man of few words. However, his actions speak louder than words, and had a great impact on the lives of Pastor and his siblings. Pastor’s father kept his faith till his return to heaven, and his last words were ‘Thank you, God’. This personal sharing was both poignant and thought-provoking.

During the altar call, praise God that 8 people stepped forward to accept Christ. Praise the Lord for all of His grace!
