Music 道 (The Word in Music)

Dec 25, 2021

Merry Christmas to all and the day that we had been anticipating for is finally here. We all gathered in the church for the Musical道 – “ The Seven Sentences on the Cross”.

At about 2:30pm, bros, sis and friends started to come in to get the best seats available for the musical. For the past week, there was a promotion where we could fill in the form to earn ourselves a specially designed “The seven sentences on the Cross” limited edition cards. Some people lined up at a counter to claim the cards they earned. The Spirit of Christmas was in the air as it has been two years since we met in person during Christmas time.

At about 3pm, most of the seats were filled and the show began to start. The musical started with a song sang by sis Rosa, highlighting the theme and bringing us back to the day that Jesus was crucified 2000 years ago. With Sis Ivy as the narrator, she took us a step at a time into understand the seven words that Jesus has spoken.

With an array of actors and actresses, songs and dances, we were brought into the a deeper unveiling the seven sentences on the Cross. Every words that Jesus spoke on the cross had such a deep meaning. He addressed the questions and doubt that we have.

The first sentence:
Luke 23:34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Jesus did not regard the tremendous pain on the body. Because the greatest concern in His heart is that God may forgive the sins of the world.

The second sentence:
Luke 23:42 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”It is about “Today”. He gives us the promise of His eternal presence and He gives us an identity of glory and honor.

The third sentence:
John 19:26-27 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. He does not only love the world.  He knows and cares about your every need and He knows how you feel.

The fourth sentence:
Matthew 27:46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”) They were always so close. The pain of separation is simply unbearable.

The fifth sentence:
John 19:28 Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” Curses of the Law have been reversed. Come out of the battlefield with victory. Come out of the execution ground guilt free.

The sixth sentence
John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. All past, present and future sins have been dealt with.

The seventh sentence:
Luke 23:46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”  When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Pastor Gavin concluded the musical with the message that God loves us. God loves you and me.  He quoted from Luke 1:31-33 NKJV And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

Praise God for this wonderful musical which brought some of us in tears, seeing and experiencing the Love He has for us ! God love you ! See you all again next year!
