The Great Commission Sunday

Praise the Lord for His abundant grace ! At 11:00am, brothers and sisters came together joyfully for a special Sunday service titled “The Great Commission Sunday.”
During the Refreshing Moment, Pastor Gavin, with sister Ivy interpreting, shared from Ephesians 2:8-10 that we are saved by grace through faith and created for good works, calling us to live as the salt and light of the world, bringing people to Christ. When we are sent out to preach, Jesus is always with us as affirmed in Mark 3:14. The message reminded us to stay rooted in Him and to keep refreshing our spirit, so the cultures and values of the world do not weaken our faith, as salt retains its saltiness and light shines without being hidden.
The congregation then entered into Spirit-filled praise and worship led by sister Stephanie, followed by communion and a testimony from sister Jit on God’s faithfulness in her journey of evangelism. Inspired by earlier medical missions in the Philippines, she began ministry trips to Korat, Thailand in 2018. While balancing part-time work and caregiving, she considered serving in her hometown, but she decided to trusted God’s plan and timing, as revealed in Habakkuk 2:2-3. Eventually, God opened a way, and in 2024 she joined the Thailand mission in her hometown, where 520 people, including relatives, were saved and experienced healing miracles. A care group was formed, bringing people freedom from fear, addiction, and debt. In 2025, God opened the door wider in Sakon Nakhon, with 1,199 new believers and growing enthusiasm amongst Thai brothers and sisters. She concluded with Romans 5:8, giving thanks for the everlasting love of Christ.
Afterward, brother Philip invited several brothers and sisters to come forward and hoist the anchor prop together, a powerful symbol of starting the Great Commission journey as one team. We proclaimed John 17:20-23 with aligned hearts, and through a short video, we declared our mission to bring people to Christ, like casting a net overflowing with fish.
Pastor Gavin continued the sermon, leading us to proclaim the Great Commission from Matthew 28:18-20 under the theme “Hoist the Anchor ! Go ! ” He explained that in Paul’s time, missions often began with boat journeys, guided by a compass and powered by blowing wind. The compass symbolizes the truth of God’s Word, and the wind represents the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8), reminding us to rely on both truth and Spirit to direct our mission and empower us to make disciples.
To keep us motivated, Pastor Gavin shared Isaiah’s vision in Isaiah 6:2-8. Isaiah saw God’s glory and experienced forgiving love, then humbly answered, “Here am I; send me” when God asked, “Whom shall I send.” This encounter inspired us to remain humble, seek God’s revelation through reading His Word, serving Him in ministry, and offering our lives as blank pages for Him to write our stories. The resurrection power of Jesus (Matthew 28:8) even fills us with great joy, enabling us to share the gospel without burning out. The sermon closed with a prayer of dedication to the Great Commission.
Finally, delicate souvenir keychains inscribed with “Salt and Light” and “Hope, anchors of soul (Hebrew 6:19)” were distributed as tokens of encouragement, and 100 phone lanyards were introduced for sale to support the mission.
