Baby Dedication
May 31, 2009
After the Praise and Worship, with a starting note from Proverbs 22:6 and the showing of a beautifully edited Powerpoint, the chair-person introduced the Baby Dedication Ceremony.
Praise the Lord, 5 babies were dedicated to the Him. Pastor Gavin stated that it was a joy to the family when they could commit, as a family, to building a strong foundation in the child, which definitely parallelly led to growth of the parents as they lived by example.
This ceremony denoted the dedication of the whole family to the Lord, not just the baby. In fact, it was more for the parents. It was parents, who dedicated their lives and vowed to the Lord to bring up their child the Godly way until they are old enough to make their own commitments to the Lord.
Ps. Gavin invited parents to pledge to the dedication of the child with 3 questions, he also invited the congregation to pledge to support by setting examples and unitedly guide and teach the children. Everyone in the family of God was to provide the child with a loving family. Pastor then prayed for Gods protection and covering on each child over his/her in physical body, mind and soul.
Following that was a Presentation of certificate to the five family.
Brother Hugo gave a testimony regarding how his wife, Sister Inge and him, being first-time parents, went through the time when Baby Ethan was having a fever. The challenge was that Hugo had an important meeting and could not look after Ethan and be with Inge to take him to hospital, etc. He was helpless when he saw Inge cry as there was nothing they could do and he could not be with her to support her. They prayed for Gods protection, guidance and wisdom to take them through and, of course, HE did.
One day, he reflected on all the different things that happened in the world and around him, he suddenly realized the importance of guiding children the right way and that could only be done by committing to God and following HIS ways. He ended with the same verse of Proverbs 22:6 Train the child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Praise the Lord for the babies and His wonderful provision!
