19th Anniversary Banquet
August 14, 2011
In the evening, the congregation gathered again at the Paramount Banquet Hall, Megabox, Kowloon Bay for the 19th Anniversary Celebration Banquet.
After the photo taking of award of the membership, the banquet started at around 6.15pm. The MCs were Vicky and Kat. The program began with a warm-up game, in which each table has to guess the total price for a bunch of groceries. The table of SD2 sisters won the game wonderful guesses!
After toasting by Pastor Gavin, Sister Arlene and all sub-district and unit leaders, each sub-district started their anniversary performance one by one.
SD1’s dancing performance was called “In the Beginning”, showing us how God led us from the beginning till the end.
SD2 gave us an entertaining performance called “”A Renewed Life””, where they made the analogy that the life-changing process by God was similar to the procedures of clothes being washed. Brothers and sisters went in a “washing machine” and they were renewed after being washed by God’s word and love.
SD3 gave a performance in which brothers and sisters painted a picture on stage while they were singing praise and worship songs. The topic, “”From Tears to Hope””, and the picture signified how God led us and changed our lives.
SD4 then gave dancing performance called “The Amazing Race”, showing us how God led us through all kinds of challenges.
Last but not least, SD5 gave a very entertaining performance in which we travelled in time to look back at how the Hope of God Church Hong Kong grew in the previous 19 years. Moreover, they gave the congregation of a hopeful teaser of how the church would be on its 50th Anniversary.
The dinner started after the performances. The food was good and the atmosphere was cheerful.
The atmosphere was pushed to its climax when the best-costume team was elected. The care group Bethel from SD3 got the prize with their Scottish outfit – even the brothers were in the traditional Highland Dress!
The banquet ended in rounds of laughter, joy and photo-taking. Praise the Lord for leading our church continuously and giving us a wonderful day of celebration!
