Health Day
February 23, 2003
The first action day of Year 2003 took up the issue of health with a theme “How Fit Are You?”.
It took place in the Sunday afternoon of 23 February at Hope Centre to help us find out more about our health condition The program mainly consisted of body checkup and health talks by registered nurses, and also medical consultation by doctors. It attracted a total of 218 participants in attendance, of which 45 were visitors.
One of the main objectives of this event was to remind ourselves the importance of a balanced life in terms of Spirit, Mind and Body. Every one of us needs a strong body in order to serve God and His people effectively. It was also a good opportunity to reach out to our friends and family members and offer them practical benefits through the church.
There were four stations in the body checkup where participants took tests on weight, height blood sugar and blood pressure respectively. The test results were screened by the nurses and participants whose test results indicated adversity or abnormal symptoms were referred immediately to the doctors on site for medical consultation. There was also a counter to offer information for full checkup and laboratory test at a discount.
The other part of the program was a health talk on the topic of “Balanced Diets”. The speaker explained the different categories of food and how a balance intake could contribute to our bodies’ well being.
Besides finding out about our own body condition, it was also a great time for us to make new friends and exchange health tips. Some of us had even found new partners to do exercise together!
We would like to thank the invited medical professionals who had graciously offered their time and effort in this event. Some of us may know that there is a group of nurses in the church but did not really know who they were until we were served by them. May we take this opportunity to thank each of the wonderful nurses in our midst who helped to organize this event and also offered their professional services on the day itself.
We are joyful to see that many brothers and sisters and friends have benefited from the event and we are more confident in serving the comunity better in the future.
