Mission Sunday

March 6, 2005

Christ’s Great Commission, in Matthew 28:19-20 clearly tells His people to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything Christ commanded us. The early Christians spread the gospel by establishing local churches for the fellowship of saints and sent out disciples to plant churches in other cities. The Hope Movement was founded on the examples of the early churches. The gospel is preached; believers are baptized and local seed churches are planted and other cities and countries are reached out to. Our vision evidently follows the teaching of Christ.

Thanks to the Mission Department, a video was prepared showing the precious moments shared during our 2004 mission trips to Taiwan, Korea and Macau. Testimonies from our brothers and sisters who have participated in the evangelistic ministry have one common achievement. They targeted to bring blessings and encouragement to our overseas brothers and sisters but to their astonishment, they were greatly blessed and encouraged in return. We praise God for enlightening us the importance of reaching out and the joy that we receive in return is beyond words can describe.

A Mission Pledge was cordially invited in the congregation and Pastor Gavin encouraged us to give in faith in the same way we have walked in faith.

In the sermon today, Pastor Gavin further encouraged the congregation to participate in the evangelistic ministry. We are all called to be in God’s world mission work, therefore should go with faith and willingness to build relationship, evangelize with whatever blessings we possess and depend on the guidance and empowerment of the Holy Spirit to convict the non-believers.

Mission and evangelism is the commission of every Christian. Come, let all of us take the step of faith and get involved in the mission work. We will be doing God’s extraordinary work in our ordinary daily life!
