Friends Day
November 4, 2018
Praise God! It is the time of the year for our annual Friends Day!
This year, we had a combined service early in the morning at 10am. Brothers, sisters and friends from the Thai Group, Filipino Group, Youth Group and Cantonese Group all gathered at church to worship God together.
After a joyful and passionate session of praise and worship, we heard the testimony of Brother Gary from Group 10. He shared how God led him and his family to serve together in the Medical Relief earlier in July this year. Praise God for using the life of Gary’s family, especially his two young boys, to bless the lives of those in the Philippines.
Pastor Gavin then gave a sermon on John 15:15: “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you”. When we are in Christ, we are His friends. Jesus does not consider us as His servants. What He wants is for us to draw closer to Him, to know Him and His heart more and to experience more of His love. Praise God! The congregation then responded to His love and 12 of our friends received Jesus as their savior and friend!
After service, our brothers, sisters and friends packed into coaches to go to the Siu Lam BBQ site. The site was soon filled with laughter and smell of delicious food. Praise God for the opportunity to serve and care for each other. We sat around the stove cooking and chatting away as we filled our stomachs. We all made new friends and our bonds were further strengthened.
At game time, our brothers, sisters and friends of different ages and different language came together to have some fun. It was joyful time tossing around beach balls and passing on the love. Then, in the group games, we were challenged to gather a number of specific items and take photos of them as fast as possible. We all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.
The beautiful day ended with a beautiful sunset. Groups of brothers, sisters and friends went out to the beach to take photos and have fun together. It is indeed a blessing to be in this great family of God.
Praise the Lord for the blessed day!
