Lunar New Year Celebration

January 22, 2012

It was the last day of Lunar New Year. We gathered together to worship God as a family of God.

The church was beautifully decorated with “duilian” (door banner which consists of a pair of lines of poetry according to Chinese traditions) that brothers and sisters from different group wrote.

Following the joyful Praise and worship,Sister Rachel testified about her blessing in the past year. She got to know Christ, got married, and settled in church in all but one year. It was indeed encouraging to us all and brought us much joy.

Then the announcement of Duilian competition followed. We had three prizes this year for the caregroups which submit the best Duilians. The duilians were judged according to creativity, pertinence and calligraphy.

Then Brother Allen preached the sermon on Matthew 5:1-12. It is a passage on the Beatitudes. The eight blessings that Jesus promised required 8 attitudes to get them. We have to be humble in spirit, repent of our own sins, gentle in spirit, hunger and thirst for righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, become peace makers and love God despite persecutions.

The service was closed in traditional Chinese New Year songs. And surprise! The children church kids gave out red packets. Also.. Glutinous rice dumpling was served after the service!

May Gods blessing be upon all of us in the year of Dragon!
