Special Sunday and Discipleship Training – Salt and Light 1
May 3 , 2026
It is a joyful Sunday that all brothers and sisters come together to learn the words of God and celebrate His goodness and wonderful grace.
The special Sunday Service themed Salt and Light started at 11am. A three-year journey of living alive as Salt and Light was established for us, in fulfilment of the great commission. Being the Salt of the earth and Light of the world is a lifelong process. During the Refreshing Moment, Pastor Gavin shared the Bible verse Romans 1:16-17, with interpretation by sister Ivy. Pastor Gavin encouraged us not to feel ashamed of the gospel of Christ and to uphold this very first mindset and altitude in our life. The gospel is the powerful salvation of God and His gift of righteousness. Through continual faith in God and living every day by faith, we can truly be the effective Salt and Light.
Brother Jun led the powerful praise and worship session, followed by the Holy Communion. There was a promotion for upcoming Mother’s Day, which would be held on 10 May (Sun), 11am at the church.
Sister Pik shared a powerful testimony on God’s plan for his elder brother, from the diagnosis of his illness, to the arrangement of a domestic helper, to ultimately his acceptance of Christ as his savior within 25 days. She quoted the Bible verse Romans 8:28, highlighting that God works all things together for good and those who love Him can place their trust in His goodness.
Pastor Gavin continued the sermon with Romans 1:16–17, highlighting the Gospel as the Cornerstone of Salt and Light. He reminded us that in today’s world, endless streams of information often blur truth and falsehood. In this post‑modern age, information is weaponized, fueling anger, division, and hatred. Scripture teaches that such confusion stems from humanity’s rebellion against God. As a result, moral corruption spreads, and people lose sight of the future and love. Yet, the Gospel remains the power of God to save.
In conclusion, Pastor Gavin emphasized that the Gospel is the true foundation of Salt and Light. Salt preserves truth by faithfully declaring God’s Word. Light shines into darkness, guiding others toward Christ. As believers, we do not rely on self-righteousness or get lost in worldly confusion. Instead, we stand firm in the identity God has given us with hope and faith.
Salt and Light Discipleship Training
We proceeded after lunch with the discipleship training. It started with a prayer led by sister Elaine and interpreted by sister Ivy. Brothers and sisters were invited to share their reflections and feedback on the morning’s preaching. Together, we shared the strategies to limit the impact of social media on daily life. We agreed that abiding in God through prayer, bible reading and meditation is effective. Pastor Gavin ended the session by encouraging us to firmly root in God’s word as Jesus is the answer of every issue.
Afterward, sister Janelle guided us through the New Testament reading plan. This marked the continuation of the Hope One Team Adventure (HOT-A) Old Testament reading journey. The new plan recommended a one-year schedule to read the entire New Testament, starting in May 2026 to April 2027. She also provided a brief overview of the structure and the key messages of the 27 books. The training concluded at about 4:30pm.
Thank God for choosing us to be Salt and Light throughout the upcoming three-year journey. May the power of the Gospel be witnessed through our collective lives as we continue to walk by faith. May God bless each and every one who seeks and roots in Him !
