23rd Church Anniversary Cup

August 9, 2015

Praise the Lord for leading our brothers and sisters into another year of the Hope Anniversary Cup!

This was the first year brothers and sisters are to compete under the new grouping structure.  This gave rise to an opportunity for brothers and sisters from different groups / units to team up , and for the church to have joy as a whole.

Once again, we praise God for the willing brothers to wake up nice and early in the morning a few weeks before the event to ensure that the church could get the scarce basketball court.  It is something that one would easily overlook as it appears to be a must ; yet truly it is something of utmost importance.  God honoured the hearts of the brothers who served the church, and once again we secured the venue !

As for the matches, Pastor Gavin led the congregation into prayers, and started the first match.  As mentioned, brothers and sisters teamed up with other groups so as to enjoy a time of a cross-group team building exercise.

Apart from the matches, as an honoured tradition, one should not forget about the cheering teams.  Same as the basketball teams, each cheering team consisted of brothers and sisters from different groups.  Again, it was the time for creativity and ideas to be put in their right place, and to grow in abundance .  Apart from various sorts of dances from the lovely kids dances to traditional ethnical dances; from energetic street-style dancing to creative lion dances, brothers and sisters gave their best for their respective groups.  Let’s give them a round of applause !

Of course, the gist of the event was the basketball matches.  After rounds and rounds of competition, for girls, the team from Group 5, 7, 8 and 9 took the trophy by defeating Group 2, 3, 6 and 10 with a score of 12:6 in the final.

As for brothers, it was a breathtaking and tight final match.  Group 2 and 6 had been at a leading position for the first half of the game – however, Group 7 and 8 started to fight back in the second half, and merely lost to their rivals by 3 points (10:13).  Exciting!

Thank God for the match, the joy and excitement !
